Roger began teaching after more than a decade working in business and finance. He worked as an Economist with HSBC before running a small business providing training to job seekers in London.

For 28 years he has worked at a selective school in North East England as a teacher, Head of Department and Academic Deputy Head. He still teaches Economics part-time.

As Deputy Head Academic he was instrumental in leading changes to the curriculum, IT systems, reporting and assessment regimes and teaching and learning. He also worked extensively on recruitment of staff and development of the physical building of the school. He has long experience of setting and managing academic budgets and managing and leading staff.
